The phone rang...3 years ago

It’s been exactly 3 years since I got a call from a friend of mine who has a classic ’69 Maserati.  He said, “I found a ’67 MB250SL that I would love to buy, but my wife will kill me, so I need you to buy this car – it’s really a mission of mercy – if this car stays out in the weather too long, no one will be able to enjoy it”.  Well I fell for it.

After a few years, probably too much money and time, my 250SL has become one of my passions.  Thanks to great folks from the forum such as Walter Klatt (who is the most positive person in the world!), Douglas Kim, David Gallon, Paul Kaminski's of Star Service and many others, my car is in getting in shape – “one chrome screw at a time.”

This is an early 1967 US version, 250SL, number 0989, 4-speed, Orient Red (501H), with red leather (222) interior, black soft top, white wall tires, duel mirrors, and no air conditioning.  I have made 2 modifications (not shown in photos below) from the original data card – which could be reversed – painted the hardtop, and hubcaps a contrasting black, and changed the US headlights to Euro headlights…because they just look really cool!

Doug,

I think I am in the same boat as you were 3 years ago.  I got a call from a friend in August who was leaving the DC area for Arizona and didn't want to move the car.  I just make the purchase last week.  Mine is a 1967 250 SL 5speed, no AC, no PS.   I just had it towed to a mechanic to get it running so that seems to be the first step.  would you mine emailing directly and I can get some idea of how you started your restoration?     The data plate for my car says the body color is 571 "metallic red" and the hardtop is 040, Black.  Currently the top is the same as the body.  I will take it back to the  original state.
Thanks,
Kyle

You may have to travel a little further to deal with Paul Kaminski.  Paul is thinking of moving his shop to New Hampshire.  His son will continue on at their current location on newer models.

Still waiting to see those Euro lights.

Doug,

That is such an outstanding color on your car. If I was painting my car again I think I would seriously consider the color, as a red it must be one of the best of the darker colors that really suits the car. Well done on saving the car.

Yes, that's the Nubble light house in York, Maine - near our summer house.  It's my version of an "Edward Hopper" - a famous Maine painter.

Oooo la la.  That is worthy of the Pagoda book.  Heck I'd even submit it in place of one of mine!  lol
