Amalfi to Verona
« on: November 03, 2009, 22:11:27 »
I'm going to be staying on the Amalfi coast for a few days next summer and then driving up to Verona. I'd love to get off the Autostrada and try out some of the mille miglia roads. Anyone done this or got any recommendations of great driving roads en route?

You may want to travel a little farther north to the Trentino alta Adege area.  The roads into the mountains of Val di non are fantastic with outrageous views.  And the same near Val Gardena. And of course the weather will be cooler there.

When I was stationed in Vicenza--near to Verona--during the mid 70's, I used to take my 230Sl up to the Asiago area on a regular basis. Beautiful views and great winding roads as you go from the flat lands up into the Dolomites. In the early 80's I used to make the drive down from Germany through the Gran Saint Bernard through Chiasso and Milano fairly regularly. Great beautiful views. You won't be disappointed!

Go through Tuscany and Montepulciano--plenty of good driving roads there.  Alto Adige is way far north!
