Keeping items from sliding in trunk
« on: February 12, 2004, 15:50:06 »
Hello,

I was thinking, again, of how to use the built-in luggage strap attachment points to hold some kind of strap to keep my emergency road kit and other items from sliding around in the trunk.  Any ideas?

Hi Rodd.

My solution is probably too simple (read hokey...) I use one of those rubber-type bungie cords. One end side hooks on what might be that strap attachment, the other side onto the center of the vertical spare tire. Essentially divides trunk in half. I also have a small piece of carpet under tool/emergency/detail bins for better traction.

Get a trunk net from some modern car and make some hooks that will attach to the luggage strap mounting points. Am I making sense ?

Contact Oliver Dare in Elk Grove, CA. He's the repro luggage maker who outfits most Gullwings you see at shows. He has the pattern for the 113 luggage strap and can make it in any color you'd like, including your choice of a brass or nickel finish for the buckle. The price is around 50 bucks. His number is 916-765-8207.

One more thing — Oliver Dare tells me he thinks the strap should match the color of the luggage, but the German Pagoda Club reproduced the strap and claimed it was only available in brown when new. Not sure who's right on this.

I got a cargo net from a large SUV; I hooked two ends over the shock bolts, place a case on the net and than stretched the other two ends back over the shock bolts.  Everything stays ready and handy.  The case an old lap top case hold spare fuses, belts, wire and such.  I put a small tool case on the other side.  Everything stays at the front of the trunk; leaving the back part for the car cover.  Now to get my garage as organized.

This sounds like a topic for another thread.  I'll search for one or start a new one.

This sounds like a good idea!  It basically makes a pouch that is connected at the shock towers.  I'll see what I can find for a cheap net.  I had small bungee nets for the cargo tray on the motorcycle I had, maybe I can get a bigger one for the car.

I have seen Bruce (tuultyme) set up in his trunk and it is very nice...wish I had one just like it. It streches from shock to shock and as Bruce says it keep the rest of the trunk free of clutter.
