Fuel Injection lines 280SL
« on: December 04, 2009, 09:21:54 »
I am new here, also new to a Pagoda. I have a 69 280SL, it's been sitting for 21 years in a heated shop. And presumably fired up periodically by the previous owner who has been restoring it. I haven't fired it up yet after buying it about 3 months ago, just going over everything first. Changing fuel lines, doing a tune up, distributor cap, rotor plugs wires etc. I have pulled the fuel lines and polished them, painted them with high heat aluminum for brake calipers. Problem is, I do not have the schematic for were they all go. I have the service manual for the car but can't find any reference to which fitting on the pump is number one and which one is which. I believe that number one cylinder is the front cylinder starting at the radiator and counting toward the back of the engine to number 6 cylinder. Now which fitting on the IP is Number one and in what direction do I count. Trouble is I took all the little clamps off the lines to clean them and now I have 6 individual lines plus one for the cold start. Hope this makes sense. Hoping someone can direct me to a link or just explain. I note Dan Caron is on here and I know from the 107SL site that he is very knowledegable and he helped me with things on my other  107 Benzes.

Hello,

Injector lines run kind of backwards.
Outlet six on the pump goes to injector #1 on the engine and Outlet 1 on the pump goes to injector #6.

Also they run in 2 layers round the cylinder head. So injector lines from Outlets 6,5,and 4 are in the inner layer (nearest to the head) and go to injectors 1,2 and3.
The outer layer has outlets 3,2, and one going to injectors 4,5, and 6.

Hope these pictures will help. Note lines run top to bottom 1,2,3 on the inner layer and 4,5,6 on the outer layer.
The cold start pipe runs outside the clamp on front of the cyl head.

Ignore the second (New) vacuum line!

Naj, thank you very much for the prompt reply. I can  follow that. I have pics of my lines before I took them apart but it's hard to distinguish which line goes where in my photos. I am assuming then that number 6 outlet on the pump is at the rear of the pump at the firewall.  So in essence the pump numbers run from 1 to 6 from the rad to the firewall and number 1 cyl to number 6 cyl runs the same. I already had them back on but I think I had 3 and 4 injectors mixed up and I can now stack them properly thanks to your instructions. In the future I will be more careful when I take something apart and document the process with my digital camera .

Spatially, they only fit one way.
