Does anyone know what car this is?
« on: December 06, 2009, 18:10:49 »
Aside from work and our Pagoda, off road expeditions is my "other" passion. I've been to incredible places in most of Central and South America, some places in Africa and Australia... I've come accross very many strange things like downed airplanes, abandoned locomotives, all types of mining equipment, etc. One of them was this car, in the middle of the very nowhere (I'm serious... no less than 5 kilometers from the closest' gravel road and at least 100 kms from any kind of house/town in Santa Cruz, Argentine Patagonia.

Now, the question: What car would you say it is?

Thanks,
Andres G

Thanks Larry!

Was it common to see 2 door wagons like this one? I'm certain at some point it had it's windows broken and they were replaced with steel panels.

Also, how do you differentiate it from the very similar looking '53 DeSoto?

Thanks again,
Andres G

Chevrolet did 2-door station wagons for quite a while.  The most famous of these were the 1955-1957 Chevy Nomads.  Back from the 30's right through the early 60's Chevrolet produced something called a "Sedan Delivery."  It was a base series 2-door station wagon with front seat only and smooth metal panels instead of windows aft of the doors.  They are fairly rare today - they were popular with hot-rodders in the day.  Perhaps this 2-door wagon was "converted" into a delivery vehicle for a while before it was abandoned.

Looks like it caught on fire at some point looking at how the paint is all gone from the roof and doors but not around the hood or front fenders. Slow interior fire maybe.
