Main Bearing Cap needed
« on: December 29, 2009, 02:31:11 »
During rebuild of my 280SL engine, we learned that one of the main bearings had spun.. sent off the block to a specialty shop that repaired the bearing cradle on the block... however, somehow in the process, one of the main bearing caps wound up missing.

Bottom line, I need one main bearing cap for the 130.983 280 engine.  Anyone know of a source?

Hello Phil,

I should have some. Six are the same, one is machined for the flanged bearing. Let me know which one you need.  ja17@att.net

It should be worth noting that if you are fitting a main bearing cap to your engine that was not original you will have to have the block and caps line bored.
Do not be tempted to fit it without carrying out this specialised process.
