Stuttgart low emission zone exemption
« on: January 26, 2010, 17:40:39 »
I am planning a summer trip to Stuttgart (for the the MB Museum) and then down to Italy and I noticed that Stuttgart city is a low emission zone and you need to display a sticker before you can legally drive down town. After some internet research I found this notice on exemptions on the Stuttgart state capital website,

'Classic cars (in accordance with Paragraph 2, No. 22 of the German Vehicle Registration Regulations) which have a licence plate in accordance with Paragraph 9, Section 1 or Paragraph 17 of the Vehicle Registration Regulations, and vehicles registered in another member state of the European Union, another contractual party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Turkey, if they fulfil equivalent requirements.

Does anyone know if a '69 Pagoda qualifies for this exemption and then how to go about getting the sticker if you don't live in Germany?

AFAIK an oldtimer in Germany must be over 30 years old, and in Germany have an H number plate. However, cars from EU countries to which similar rules apply (i.e. your is also over 30 years old) are also considered an oldtimer. For an oldtimer you do not need an Umweltplakette.

See: http://www.umwelt-plakette.de/

Perhaps a German member can confirm or deny?
