seat and carpet colors
« on: February 24, 2010, 19:39:22 »
I have a 230 SL 1966.  The exterior is white and the convertible top is black.  The seats are red....dash is red.....carpet is gray......trunk carpet is red.....do you think these colors are original?  How do I find out the original colors of the interior?

Also, how is the best way to attach digital pictures for purposes of you guys looking at the car?

Many thanks.

John

John:

Some of your questions can be answered by having the Data Card for your car.

Call the Mercedes Classic Center and ask them to send you the Data Card for your car. They may ask for proof of ownership such as a copy of the Registration for the car since the card shows the key codes.

The Data Card will show the exterior and interior colors, the interior color and material, soft top color, engine and tranny numbers, the options on your car, date or production, original dealer area, and more.

While waiting for the card, take a look at the Tech Manual entry for "Data Card"

Regarding the data card contact details I tried today to email the German contact listed in the Technical Manual and it has bounced back undelivered.
Anyone have an up to date email address for contact?

The interior trim is a single code number, not a code for the carpeting and another for the seats, so they should be matching colors. That being said, I like the contrast of having different uppholstery and capet coloers, When I first got my car (1976) I re-covered my 230SL's seats in the original (190) white but changed the carpeting to blue. When I redo the interior this time I plan on still using with this combination. Not original, but it is what I like.
