Fuel Injection Pump
« on: March 20, 2010, 23:57:35 »
I have a 65 230SL (#10467)

The Technical Manual says that it takes the fuel injection pump Bosch Model # PES 6 KL 70 B 120 R11.

Could I replace my fuel injection pump with Bosch Model # PES 6 KL 70 B 120 R24Y.

Note, the final number code of R11 in the Technical Manual versus the R24Y in the potential replacement pump. What do these codes mean, and is the code/pump difference significant?

I understand that the R24Y pump was working in a '67 230SL. It worked well enough, it seems, to have crashed the car.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Joe

Hello Joe,

Although I have not tried all combinations, I believe these injection pumps are quite interchangeable between models. Since there are a wide range of adjustments, I believe the pumps can be adjusted for larger or smaller displacement engines. Yet to be proven!
