Rim size?
« on: March 30, 2010, 11:09:31 »
I've just purchased 4 used rims stamped "108" as these should fit my Pagoda - but I just found out that one of them is 6,5" wide rather than 6" - will running with one slight wider wheel (but same tires all round) have any negative effects? (the supplier is quite a drive away with an expensive toll bridge en route, so I'd rather not spend another day for the sake of a single rim).

Happy Easter!

Ulf,

That 1/2-inch will make a difference in the way the tire sidewalls sit and therfore how the tread remains applied to the road.  On the front, it would make a difference in how your car responds in the event of braking in a turn.   It might make a difference in how the tire responds in a panic stop.  In the US, shipping a rim by UPS ground is not very expensive.  I would call the supplier and see if they can swap it out for you.

I would send back the 6 1/2 inch rim and get a 6" rim.   If those are 108 Bundts they take metal valve stems instead of rubber (or so says EPC).

Dang - had hoped for a positive reply as I've spend my Easter Holiday (away from the Internet) refurbishing all 4 rims, but I'll send the wrong one back and get another 6" instead.

Thanks for your replies!

BTW I plan to use my existing Tiger Paws (205) that are pretty chunky - still sure the extra half inch will make such a difference?
(The last desperate attempt...)
