The 280 SL with the 2 carburetors AGAIN
« on: April 17, 2010, 21:26:37 »
Well, can I buy an original 280 SL engine and how much would it cost ? (of course rebuilt one)

The car has been perfectly rebuilt, except that it doesn't have a fuel injection engine.  Also changing gears is a bit "crude".  Crude in a sense that your hand has to carefully guide the stick shift into gear ;)

PLEASE HELP AGAIN

According to the Metric Motors web site: http://www.mercedesengines.net/products.asp?cat=26
it will cost you $7,100 + engine core (or $1,500) + shipping.

But that won't get you the injection pump, intake manifold, throttle body, injectors and plumbing, cold start valve, etc.  You would need to find a complete engine or maybe a complete car (like a sedan) to get tha stuff.

Probably less costly to buy a complete car like the one you will end up with when done.

The sloppy gearshift is probably a case of worn bushes in the shifter (assuming its a manual), they are cheap and easily replaced.
Good luck with your engine search

I don't know what the cross compatibility might be but here's an option for sourcing www.car-part.com (See below for countrywide search)

I'd also scour Craigslist for components and parts cars.
