over winter have misplaced my one set of keys does anyone know if the keys can be tracked by serial no.

Your key code is on your data card.
If you don't have a data card, you can get one from the Classic Center.
Search the Technical Manual for those terms and you will be able to read about it.

There are different versions of the data card, but on mine it is below the transmission number, at position 24.

Once you get the key codes, you can go right to the dealer and order new ones. They will cut them to your car in Germany and you will receive them in a couple of weeks. I didn't have the original-style keys when I bought my car so this was the route I took just to get them to be "correct" to the car. They were a little pricey but very cool. Its amazing that they keep records such as these.

Or you can order them on-line from several different suppliers for less $$$.   There is no reason that you have to get the key from Mercedes if you have the key code...   I think I got mine from key-men.com
