Hello all. I'm the 'curator' of my in-laws' 1966 230SL. The car is white with red interior and two tops; it has been in the family since new. It was repainted to a high standard in the original color ~20 years ago, and a 1980s cassette deck is the only other molestation--IOW, it's a really nice Driver. I have two questions now that Griot's and I have gotten overfamiliar with this family heirloom:
1) The front left turnsignal lens is badly cracked where it surrounds the US headlight. Are there recommended (or UNrecommended) sources for replacement of this part? Are there advantages, other than cosmetic, to tracking down the euro headlight, and is this an involved conversion or a parts swap?
2) Half of the chrome trim around the back of the passenger compartment is MIA. Are there recommended (or UNrecommended) sources for replacement of this part?
I'm a Porsche lifer, but the comprehensive elegance of this car has gotten under my skin. Thanks for your help, now and in years to come!
