1978 Becker
« on: May 15, 2010, 00:26:01 »
My neighbor bought a 4.5 1978 Mercedes sedan. Very nice, very low mile one owner.  I was surprised that the becker looked just like the older one in my 1970. It is pretty nice and is a signal seeker which works great.  Since he is swapping to a modern radio he offered it to me.  Will this interchange with our older Becker radio and wiring?  Just what I need right now is another thing to do on this car!!

Hello Richard,

The radio and faceplate should fit fine. You will have to change the speaker plug.

Actually the term "4.5"  normally refers to the  (W108) sedan. It was only made in 1972 and 1973. Mercedes did make a 450SE sedan with the 4.5 engine (W116) after the  "4.5" . In either case the radio should work. Sometimes the box itself may be a little smaller and in may only be a one piece unit (no amplifier) but the faceplate assembly and installation is the same as the original W113.
