I have a few OEM Mercedes oil filters lying around.  I think but I'm not sure that they are for my pagoda. Part numberon box is A 000 180 00 09. Can anyone confirm if this is the correct filter for my 71 280SL?

Yes, thats the correct part  # for the Pagoda filter.

The seal ring pointed out by Hans is not a part of the filter kit.
It has to be purchased separately and does not need changing every time you replace the filter.

Have a look in the wiki for the seals that need changing periodically.
