Originality question
« on: June 14, 2010, 01:36:31 »
In the attached photo what is the hole for? is this for drainage? I've seen this in several cars but not sure why.

Should there be any similarly sized holes with no apparent purpose in the engine compartment over the wheel wells? I've seen these from time to time in W113's but not sure what the purpose may have been other then adulteration over the years by previous owners.

They always seem to be the same size... as in drilled with the same size bit.

This one in particular could obviously be assumed to be a drain hole...I assume...

At the same time I've seen other holes in the engine compartment generally over the wheel wells on either side where it would make no real sense to have drain holes, then again perhaps....some cars seem to have them others not. Not sure why.

The inner fender holes found on cars built around '69 and later where made to give easier access for rust proofing of the area.
Many older cars also have them, in which case it is a good indicator that the inner fenders have been replaced. Since all MB replacement inner fenders come with holes ready made.
