Petrol Cap
« on: June 20, 2010, 18:37:18 »
My lockable petrol cap fell off today :'(
It never did fit too well but looked good with the mercedes logo on it.
Anyone know of a cheap source for a new one?
Thanks

I think you may be in for an expensive shock...

If you can re-trace your steps, I'd suggest it's worth it as new I think they're between £160-180 from MB or SLS - if they have them. Or try fleabay, but I imagine they're rare.

I know someone with a Pagoda who lost his cap, re-traced his steps, and found it right next to the very first twist in the road after the petrol station. It was a lucky find, but it was also very logical.

Used locking cap with MB logo in not so good condition begins over $125 US on eBay.  just had a key made for my cap by locksmith at $40.  Good luck.

Do you have a receipt or the name of the  gas station from which you could research a phone number.  Worth a call to ask if they found it. It might have fallen off right away somewhere on their lot or right by the pump station.   If you used a card you could call your bank and get location/name of the station.  Again worth a call and maybe if they found it you might arrange for them to mail/ship it to your house for a lot less than a new one.

I've forgotten the the petrol cap at a gas station at least three times and I've driven many miles to retreive it. Every time it was right where I left it - on the pump. One time the attendant held it in their "lost and found".

I just bought one from Mercedes. Think it was around £160 with VAT and mercedes club discount.

I got a new one from SLS (I think) last year - it comes with 3 keys and although expensive, it's worth it - but the cork seal might need a little adjustment to fit properly...

Thanks guys, just bought a cheap plastic one from Halfords (£5) while I come to terms with the eventual cost of a new one!
