New Euro H'light Question
« on: March 24, 2004, 09:36:43 »
Cees & others: I will install the above in a few weeks & am looking forward to them very much. I recall Cees having done this & saying the old US spec chrome rims can be reused with the euro lights, but that something   needs to be ground away. When I removed my rims a while back for a look-see, I came away unsure of exactly what he was referring to altho' there are a couple of ear like projections at approximately 3 & 9 o'clock. I thought it better to clarify now -rather to moan later- & hope some additional light can be shed. Possibly a photo? Any help appreciated.   -JP-

JP,
When I did the conversion from US to Euro headlights I had gotten the Euro rims to go with the lights so I cannot advise you on that topic but, I learned after I installed my Euro headlights that halogen bulbs are available and fit right into the Euro headlights. I suggest that before you install the Euro headlights get the halogen bulbs, unless of course your Euro headlights already have them.

Thanks Ted, I have the bulbs (with Dan Stern's help) ready to go.     -JP-

I don't know what need to be ground away but my euro rims did have those ears. They help to locate them properly. You can check this by fitting them on the lamps prior to installation.

JP - as I recall it was fairly self-explanatory when I held the old rims to the new lights. But if you are having trouble determining what's what, let me know and I will gladly go out and take some photos.

OK Cees, thanks. I have not separated the old rims yet from the US sealed beam headlights, so maybe the solution will be more apparent at that point. If not, I'll get back with you. Regards,   -JP-
