Seat bolts and fastenings
« on: July 24, 2010, 05:55:00 »
I have finally got round to giving my front seats a light overhaul involving taking them out, separating the seat back from the cushion, cleaning, fixing a couple of springs etc. Previous owners have obviously done this in the past and have reassembled/butchered using various makeshift bolts, nuts and non-original fastenings. I would like to get the seats back as close to original assembly as possible - does anyone know if the original bolts and clips etc are still available from MB?

In particular, I hope someone can answer the following:

1) The front and back bolts anchoring the seat to the car were of a different size. The rear bolts on mine are narrower and have a washer retained on them. The front bolts are larger regular hex head bolts with a separate washer. Does anyone have the part numbers for the bolts and washers etc as originally installed?

2) The chrome seat adjuster covers in my car have been glued on with some rubbery adhesive. The technical manual says they're supposed to be held on by plastic clips. Are these clips still available as replacement parts and is there a part number I can use?

3) When I remove the chrome cover, there are two large headed screws: one fixing the seat mechanism to the back and the other fixing to the bottom cushion. What are the part numbers for these if still available, along with any washers and spacers originally fitted. The threaded ends of these bolts appear to have a triangular section cut out of them.

4) is the centre cover cap for the knurled rotary adjuster knob still available as an MB part?

5) What is the size of the machine screw required to fix the rotary adjuster knob to the serrated shaft?

Apologies for all of these questions - I just want to get it right first time. Pulling the seats out was not easy so I don't want to have to do it again anytime soon if I can help it.

Thanks

David

There have been a number of posts regarding the seat adjustment knob insert/cover, so you should be able to use the search function to get some more detailed information. I was able to find a replacement, the part number for the 280 SL - 110 910 00 18, the screw holding it in place (to the serrated shaft) is DIN 007987 004120. (I was not able to find the sizing information for this DIN number, 4 mm diameter, but length not in my table)

For the seats, the 280 SL parts book lists -

Front mounting points for seat - screw self locking - 108 990 03 22
Rear mounting points for seat - cage nut 000 990 42 91, then it has replaced by 000933 006088 (8.8 hardness, metric, 6 dia X 20 length hex head screw)/ 000127 006203 (lock washer, 6 mm)/00125 006407 (regular washer)

The bolt for the seat bracket (under the chromed cover) -
at the front (to the bottom seat cushion frame) - 113 984 22 31 lens head shoulder screw, spacer ring 113 991 02 35
there is also a listing for a spring washer 900055 016002 (listed as spring washer in DIN book, 16 mm?) and screw 000439 010202 (hex nut 10mm?- yes I see the parts book lists it as a screw, but the DIN number indicates a nut)

The bolt for the back rest
113 984 01 32 Cylindrical head shoulder screw
113 918 00 96 Plastic buffer
000439 008201 Nut (hex nut, 8 mm? no DIN listing in my book)

The clip for the chrome cover
110 988 11 78

I will await corroboration.
