New member and proud owner of a Pagoda
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:30:04 »
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Christo,I am 27 and I am from Bulgaria. My parents had a company mainly for construction works and
corrosion protection. After I finished my degree in chemistry and my master degree in hydrogen technologies I took over the business and could afford my dream.
I bought my Pagoda two weeks ago. I was dreaming about her ever since I first saw this car and I had a drivers license  :D It is a 280sl red color with cognac interior. In Bulgaria there are only 2 more Pagodas that you can never see on the streets so I draw "some" attention when I drive mine... Here are some pics of her and my other beast before cleaning and playing with the chrome. The Pagoda is in perfect condition, rust free and drives perfect.Thank you for the time,

Best regards,
Christo

Very nice! Welcome!

If you don't mind me asking, what's on the rear wing, to the left of the 280SL decal?

Nice question,It's some sort of very old alarm system.  When I turn the key,the alarm goes on. When somebody opens the door the alarm engages. I don't know when was it installed. I will check it.

My car has some sort of side markers on the bumpers. Does that mean it is from the US market?

Thanks,
Best regards

I've seen these kinds of alarm systems.

Your car does have the bumper overriders that US models tend to have, so probably it was an import from the US at some stage. Did you buy the car already in Bulgaria or did you have to import it? Will you do maintenance yourself or is there a knowledgeable place nearby?

Enjoy the car!

Welcome Christo and congratulations on your beautiful Pagoda. It looks like a US-import which might also explain its rust-free condition.
Enjoy your car - I've been to Bulgaria when I was 12 (skiing in Borovets) and as far as I remember, it is a very beautiful country - a perfect match for your new car!

Best regards

Hi, Christo,

Yes, yours is a US car with side markers, bumper over-riders, elasticated door pockets and matt finish horn ring.
Probably still has some US emissions equipment too.

Hello Cees,

Yes I bought the car from Bulgaria from a guy that collects nice old timers and he needed to sell some of his cars so I was lucky to buy her cheep.
About the maintenance- I am not aware of any knowledgeable places in Bulgaria for this kind of cars,I was thinking to go to our local Mercedes-Benz dealer. What do you think?

Best regards

Hello Ulf,

Nice too meet you.It makes me happy when I meet people who have visited my homeland and enjoyed there stay. Your right it's beautiful here but sadly Borovets is not the place it used to be years ago.

Best regards,
Christo

Well you can try the Mercedes Benz dealer but many times they don't have the knowledge anymore. Try them first though, because if they don't they may be able to refer you to a place that does. And try your Mercedes Benz club in Bulgaria (assuming there is one). And try to get tips from other older Mercedes owners. If you don't intend to do your own maintenance and repairs, finding a good place is going to be important in optimally enjoying your car.
