Comparing Gasoline (petro) prices around the world
« on: October 21, 2010, 03:55:58 »
Just for fun, I thought it would be interesting to see what others pay for Gasoline (premium grade) where we all live.

I pay $3.30/gallon (premium grade) in Arroyo Grande, California

What is the cost of fuel where you live?

Jim

Between USD 1,8 and 2 per litre here in Denmark, that would translate to 6,8 to 7,6 USD per Gallon if I'm doing the math right (which may not be the case...). Most of it is taxes though :-(
Prices vary a little between the European countries.

And here us South Africans are complaining when our government adjusts the petrol prices (which in turn is linked to the crude oil price) every month....  :o

Current price about 7.36 ZAR per litre of 95 octane at the coast. That equates to about 0.67 GBP, 0.76 Euro, 1.06 USD and 1.81 AUD respectively per litre.

The shocker comes when you convert litres to Imperial and US gallons respectively.

Thus for 1 Imperial gallon in SA, the prices would be 3.06 GBP, 3.47 Euro, 4.80 USD and 4.91 AUD respectively.
For 1 US gallon it would work out to 2.55 GBP, 2.89 Euro, 4.00 USD and 4.88 AUD...

Netherlands... Euro 95 varies between € 1,44 - € 1,50 per litre.
Euro 98 (Super) which we recommend for Pagoda's varies between € 1,55 - € 1,63 per litre.

You do the math for $ to the gallon! We win  :'(

Houston Texas - $2.67 - $2.87  per US gallon for 93 octane.  ;D ;D ;D

But then you have to drive more miles for just about everything - shopping, groceries, work commutes, an evening out, etc.

Premium gas (94 Octane) here is $1.13 per litre.  Can jump around by as much as $0.05 through the week.  Didn't help that our provincial government added yet another 8% tax at the beginning of July.

about $6.75 per US gallon

Actually Peter, the way they are going, the French will win.  ;D

For those not so close, all the fuel storage depots have been blockaded as part of industrial action and so all the pumps are running dry. A trick the French learned from UK truck drivers....

Funny thing is that in South Africa diesel fuel is more expensive than gasoline and we do not have tax incentives for diesel at all.
All of which reminds me of the fellow here that has converted a W123 300D to run on chip oil...

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "cheap as chips"...   ;D

Diesel is expensive here too, I was thinking 30 mpg is better than 20 mpg, also a good chance to improve rpm to mph by changing to a later transmission, So a full conversion is a must, At the moment a 124 300d is looking like a good culprit.

My car will run quite well on regular 88 for light driving or 91 octane if I want to push it harder. I think 94 ( the highest I can get ) is around $1.20 CDN per liter.

I believe an imperial gallon is 4.56 liters while a US gallon is 3.78 liters.

The difference you stated between imperial and US gallons is correct Dan.

The highest octane we can get at the coast here is 95. Years ago before we phased out leaded fuel, 98 octane at the coast was the norm.

About 5 years ago Engen ran a market experiment where they made available 97 octane unleaded fuel in certain areas, but sadly that was short-lived as our government deemed it unnecessary.

With the 91 octane available inland, my pagoda runs crap...

Yesterday I saw it as low as $2.75 per US Gallon here in NJ.

According to NJGASPRICES.Com it's as low as $2.70 elsewhere in the state.

Octane booster?

No need for that Peter as I am located at the coast.
My pagoda (and 114) runs pretty decent on the 95 unleaded juice and fortunately our fuel is of good quality.

In the land of the European oil-sheiks (Norway) we pay NOK12.50/litre
Which is something like € 1.53 /l or $8.10 /US gallon.

Beat that! :(

I wonder if the rating system is the same everywhere you go? Could be 97 is really the same as 94 depending on where you live. My car runs pretty good on regular but I built it that way.
It has a lot to do with distributor advance and the curve you use. Vacuum starts first and it's topped out at fairly low RPM. I set my distributor so that mechanical advance starts a bit late but pulls 30 degrees at or before 3,000 RPM.
The 5 speed trans ( with 4.08 axle ) has lower gearing than a 4 speed box which also helps.

Couple of things.  Octane is a measure of the rapidity of the explosion(inverse??).  The energy content is unrelated, generally.   How do you figure in the ethanol price, value, damage, etc in the equation?  I prefer Cn H2n+2 (paraffins??), not alcohols in my gas tank. ..  Ya gotta admit- $5 gasoline gets alotta folk out of the way. ..  Less trips to the hair dresser. ..
