1969 280sl

Hello all,

I just checked this out today.  Seems a bit over priced.  Any thoughts?

Seems very high to me for a car that does not have firewall pads, been repainted but the dash is still original or they have made it a different color, the wheel covers are not correctly painted, and whilst it had a radio, it only has a blanking plate now. I am sure there are heaps of other errors that others will point out but for that price, whilst these are only minor items they are a bit of a tel-tale that who-ever did the restoration did not know what was correct and thus would make me very wary of what else they have done in the panel repair area.

Our member WITTs car in the 'for sale' area on this site and known by some here would be a better buy at two thirds the price!.

Agree with Garry - especially the dashboard detracts as it will be expensive to correct, the hubcaps are a cheaper fix and should be body-coloured. Another minor detail is the polished cam cover - it should have a cast finish, not all that "bling". Otherwise, the car looks pretty good, but should - in my opinion - cost a lot less.

The ivory 250 that they also list at 25 k seems a more reasonable car - although it is missing the rear flank trim strips that are quite expensive ( I know since mine are also missing).

I have never seen any of this dealer's SL's in the flesh, but I will say the SL's that I've seen online have been a letdown.  If you're looking for a correct W113, I would avoid this dealer and look someplace else.  It's clear there's a lot of "patchwork" going on with this car.  Take the dash for example.  Clearly this is not an original DB180 Silver car.

Heres some info about the car which I really should have mentioned in my orig post.

-I checked out the body and plate number and the second line had 108   108. 
-The body number matches the hood and the cover for the soft top. 
-A lot of receipts for the work done including 'before' pics.
-It has a silver hard top but it wasn't at the dealer yesterday.  They mentioned that the hardtop has been restored including the interior of the hard top.
-Books
-Tools - not at the dealer
-Orig Becker radio - not at the dealer

I'm heading back there next week and getting some more info on the car and give it another test drive.  Maybe they'll take lower offer.

BTW - all the tech info on this site is frigiking awesome!   See what I did there?  ;-)

Thank's for mentioning my car. Wow that baby seems to be overpriced. I am willing to accept at least $35,000.00 for mine. Response has been slow so far, I planning to re list in the spring of next year !

I think both of the cars mentioned are neat & will add quality of life for the next owners. These cars are appreciating!
