ECKEL Ski Racks
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:18:12 »
Hello All,

I apologize in advance for all the questions I may have for all of you but I am learning and need some advice/help.
When I bought my car they came with a pretty nice set of ski racks.  I have not decided yet on whether I would sell them or not as my car is nicely tucked away for the winter and I would never use the racks for their intened purpose but they look realy neat!!

I went on ebay to see what the value might be and there is a set for sale with a "buy it now price" of $2,500.  I have a feeling that is a high price but what could they realistically be worth??

Joe

Joe,

I believe the Eckels were/are a rack that one ordered with the car, or could get aftermarket.  I think the $2,500 might be a bit high--if you don't want them and will never use them, (and you are not in need of $$$ just this moment), keep a look out over the next year or so, and watch ebay and related, and see what comes up.  You'll get a better idea of true value, and then you can either keep or sell them with a bit more confidence.

Those are incredibly cool!  If only there was a ski mountain road with no salt then I'd use them in a heartbeat and feel like 007.

I'm interested in buying your racks if you decide to sell them, and if we can agree on a realistic price. Feel free to contact me via email through the forum.

How  wide is the receiver for the skies.  As you know skies are a lot wider now than 40 years ago.

I have never thought of measuring the receiver portion for the skis but I could do if anyone is curious.  I live in Ski country (Ontario) but I could never imagine using these ski racks for their intended purpose as I would never drive the car in the winter.  I just think it would be very cool going to an MB event with those on the hard top!

Nate, I haven't considered selling them at this point but if I do you will be the first person I contact.

Merry Christmas

Maybe the racks could carry an Elk or Deer?   ;D

I agree with that.. I found myself a couple of pairs of old wooden skis and Bamboo-cane type ski poles (period for mid-sixties) which I intend to put on my Oris W113 Pagoda ski rack (with Eckel rubber holders), in order to amuse my auto club friends and me

Joe: I had a 250C coupe with those racks 30 year ago and I threw them out when I sold the car. I think I paid $250.00 for them I never tried them out but they fit in the roof rails of the coupe. They look the same.
Have fun with them at a show with some skiis and period luggage.
