it's been a while, but it seems that the car is now back to the market, offered by Vintage Motors in Sarassota

http://www.vintagemotorssarasota.com/Car_pages/Mercedes/65MB230SL/65mb230sl.htm

I notice that the price is still the same as at the Heritage some time ago, but the body does not look great.

Does it make it more expensive because this is in fact a R113 instead of a W113?  ;)

It looks like we might have some "price discovery" on Lennon's Pagoda this month: it's up for auction on the 18th

Sure looks like they picked the wrong auction.  It should have gone to Amelia Island or Pebble Beach with Gooding Auctions.  I doubt with the lineup they have at that auction they will attract the right crowd and they don't seem to be marketing it very well.  If it were crossing Goodings' block word would be everywhere as it was when Jerry Seinfeld auctioned 22 million dollars of cars from his collection.  The Seinfeld collection brought some stupid money like $121,000 USD for a 1961 Volkswagon Beetle!  Honestly, I think this auction would be a good opportunity for someone to get a "deal" if they were so inclined.

For me the overall issue is that John Lennon was known for his non material beliefs(Even though Paul Mccartney once claimed that Lennon called him up and asked him to come over and help him write a new swimming pool)  besides that fact he wasn't even a car guy.  Newman and McQueen whose former cars are quite valuable were not only car guys the both modified and raced their own cars.  People buy their cars to somehow associate themselves with their spirit of cool and their love of cars.  Someone who wants to capture some piece of John Lennon's spirit is probably not going to want to buy his car.

I am betting it won't make reserve.

sold at $225,000 USD.  A far cry from their $500,000 to $2,000,000 estimate.
