My 1965 230sl has the DC8C45R2 fuel injectors. The tech. manual says I should have the R1 injectors. Can anyone tell me the difference and can I still use the R2's...
Martin,
Like Alfred has mentioned, the R1 injectors are NLA (no longer available) and the R2 injectors are what Mercedes (and Bosch) now supplies.
From the perspective of your 230SL's fuel injection pump, there is no difference between the R1 and the R2 injectors as the opening pressure of
both injectors is the same.
The opening pressures are as follows:
a) 17.5 to 18.5 atm. for new injectors
b) 15.0 to 18.5 atm. for used injectors
The most important thing to note is that the differences in opening pressure of individual injectors should not exceed 3 atm.
In 2008 I replaced all my injectors in my 1964 230SL with a set of R2's and have had no problems whatsoever.
