Seat belt webbing - colour?
« on: April 08, 2011, 07:07:37 »
My belts needs replacing as Mr Mouse has snacked on them. They are black and I non-original.

The car interior is Cognac Leather. Do I have a free choice as to what colour belt? Black sort of annoys me but I guess the "choice" at the time was black or grey...

What would you fit?

James, I think the belts came in more than black and grey.  Mine are blue to match the interior colour.  I would go with whatever colour you want and makes you happy. ;D

cognac mousetrap..... ;)

Since redoing my Pagoda which includes the interior, I decided to make a safety upgrade and replace the lapbelts with shoulder harnesses and purchased them from the Classic Center.  My interior is black, so it worked with the black seat belts I received.  I wonder if the Classic Center has or can get different colors.  I agree, I would rather have the belts match my interior color.

I've seen dozens of original cars with "khaki" color belts (see photo), no matter what the interior color was. My original belt on the right and a custom new belt from "Snake Oyl" on the left. During the replacement process I learned that the original-style webbing is no longer legal.

The Hickok lap belts were available in lots of colors.  So if you are going with those you have choices.  If you go with the 3-point Kangols, they are black/charcoal, however I had a set made in tan and those are on ebay (item 160388805434 - contact me directly if you want a better deal).  Your third choice is to go with what I think are truly dreadful "upgrades" from the classic center.  I particularly dislike the big BLUE logo on the belt receiver.  Eccchhh.
