Bras & Spark Plugs& Turn Signal
« on: May 10, 2004, 09:37:53 »
I realize this might be heresy, but I need a bra for my '69 280SL to protect the car from highway driving...I plan on a few trips this year and it will be driven to at least one concours, maybe 2.  Had not too much luck finding a bra on the internet.  Anyone have any ideas?  It will ONLY be used for highway driving to protect the paint and the chrome--too much invested NOT to have one.

Also, when changing plugs yesterday, I noticed that my #1 plug wire had an "L" shaped connector with 5K resistance, and the rest were straight with 1K resistance.  Is this normal?  It was a new Bosch wire set that the restorer put on...

Anyone have a wiring diagram to verify the connections to the turn signal indicator?  I think some wires are reversed somewhere, my headlight "flasher" seems to turn on the washer motor pump.

Mike,

All the plug ends should have the same resistance.

1000 ohm wire is correct 5000 is not! Straight at plug end and 90 degree at distributor end. Bigbabbo (Robert) sell's a set of correct Beru wires. The ones he sells on e-bay are Bosch and you will get one incorrect wire in this Bosch set. (angled at number 1 plug end.) If you call and ask he will sell a correct Beru set. I am just a very satisfied customer. E-mail me and I will e-mail you back a colored wire schematic.

Bosch for some reason sells that set for the 113. It is wrong, I believe the 1 angled plug is to clear parts on a carburated engine. Don't buy those Bosch sets, They are wrong. Sounds like The Beru wires are the way to go. My car had bad wires and I went to a motercycle shop and purchased copper plug wire and screwed my stock ends on and it works great.

Michael,

If you use a bra, I would suggest an extra heavy wax underneath to protect from grit and dirt that can find its way between the bra and the paint, causing scratches.

Best,

Tom
