New San Francisco, CA Member need recommendations
« on: May 13, 2011, 03:55:47 »
Hi,

  I just bought myself a 1967 Mercedes 250SL Automatic.

I live in the city of San Francisco and I need a recommendation (please) for a trusted Mechanic and an upholstery person in the city of SF.

Also and does anyone want to go for a drive from San Francisco to Sonoma town square on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30th)?

I would love to get to know some of the local members.

  Thanks and let me know.

Shoeman (I work for Skechers, thus the Handel, Shoeman)   ;)

Hi Shoeman (Ouch, that's too tight!)

I'm sure others from your area will chime in with some answers to your questions. This is just a word (actually, more than a word) about how we organize the posted messages.

This website has various Forums for messages by subject matter. In that way, if a person is interested in what events are going on, can go through the Events Forum and not have to look in the other Forums for that information.

It's kind of handy although if you followed that system, you would have posted your message in two parts in two Forums: the Ebay and Other Vendor Experiences Forum for your SF Mechanic and Upholstery sources, and the Events Forum for your "Anyone want to drive..." question.

There is no harm in lumping subjects together. It's just not usually done.

Don't worry about this. You will soon fall into the way we work as you keep using this site.

Moderators sometimes move message to the "correct" Forums but as your message covers two Forum subjects, I guess General Discussion is OK.

A way to find answers even before you post is to do a Search with key word then click on the messages that result..and don't for get to look and search the Technical Manual. It has lot of good stuff about many, many subjects.

A suggestion: if you click on "Members" at the top of the Page, you can search for CA or San Francisco members to find others in your area (if the other members were kind enough to put the Location in their Profile...not all members do that.)

Welcome and and the best with your car. Of course, we know you will post photos of you car in the Photos Forum. Photos that help show or understand an issue are posted in the message in the proper subject Forum. Photos which are primarily to show the car or places it's been are posted in the Photos Forum.

Keep posting even if you are a bit confused by these few words...we'll move what has to be moved. The site also has a place for introducing New Members and messages about the website and how to use it. Please look around...there's a lot to be seen.

Welcome!  Jurgen Kloekmann (sp) restores early MBZ's (including W113's) and would be a good person to connect with for restoring your interior correctly.  I've never used him but have seen his work and have heard good things.  Do a search on the message board or look under vendors for his contact info.  You may also try contacting Roy Spencer at L.R. Spencer in Burlingame to hear his suggestions.

With regards to finding a good mechanic in SF, you'll be hard pressed to find one that will work on W113's.  I've heard good things about Pete's in S.F. but have never used them.  IMHO you're better off taking your car to an independent mechanic outside of the city.  I brought my old '69 280SL to Baroo Ahmadi at English and European Car Service in Albany several years ago and was very pleased with his work and rates.  His number is 510.559.8708.  Good luck!

Welcome Shoeman!  I work in SF and live in the eastbay.  I got my 1970 280SL in march and went directly to York's Motorwerk in Walnut Creek and am very happy with their work and their professional service.  I found them by doing a search in the forums.  I've also heard good things about Pete's in sf.

I took my car to MB-Garage in San Mateo for some light restoration work and "Mr. Stitch" reupholstered my seats.  Email me if you want more details.

PS: Big fan of Sketchers.  Bought two new pairs from the outlet store in El Cerrito a month ago.

Hey Shoe Man, welcome to the group. I can't offer much in the way of recommendations -- as I live a bit a way (Grass Valley in the Sierra Foothills)-- although agree that Roy Spencer may have some suggestions...

As for a drive... well. There seems to be a new crop of Pagoda members in the last few years from the Bay Area. I would love to see a gathering this year. We have had several in years past -- but its been a while. There was one in 2003 or so had 13-15 Pagodas? Another in Los Gatos with maybe 10 of us. And then in 2008 we had a good turnout for a Gold Country overnighter that included a bunch of Bay Area 113s  (10 or so). They were all great but I think its time for another Pagoda Fest!!

I am technically not from the Bay Area but am within striking distance and would make a trip if we get some takers. What do you say, SF-ers?

You may also want to join the MBCA SF chapter if you haven't already. They do a first sunday drive every month and pick really nice, fun roads to explore. In fact, you don't really have to be a member but its worth joining anyway. Again, get enough Pagodas to commit to an upcoming Sunday Drive and I'm in!

Hi Shoeman, and welcome to the group. I live and work in San Jose and have used Jurgen for several years. He replaced the worn, red MB tex in my 280 with red leather; his work is excellent! He also did additional mechanical work on the vehicle after another mechanic in the area failed to get it just right. I'll look for his contact info, as I normally just shoot by his garage when I need anything.
