Rear springs
« on: June 24, 2011, 09:04:10 »
Hello everyone - this is my first post on this forum - I am based in the UK and have a 1965 113 that I am trying to get sympathetically restored.

Amongst other things, it needs some REAR SPRINGS. Can anyone recommend the best place to get hold these locally?  Should these be replaced by Mercedes specific parts or is this one item that can be replaced by standard stock parts of a similar size without compromising the integrity of the car?

Many thanks,

Tabby

Hi Tabby,

I know a few people here have fitted uprated springs and I'm sure they will chip in with details and suppliers. For standard parts you could try Roger Edwards Motors in Amersham who usually have everything, phone Gavin, Paul or Michael on 01494 766766. Another good source of parts is SLS in Germany who do a good internet mail order service at http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/ MB UK also stock a significant number of parts and are not always the most expensive so always worth getting a quote from your local dealer.

Good luck

Welcome.

Do a bit of reading and searching on the forum before making your decision. There are a lot of posts - though none for a while - about progressive springs vs normal springs. You may also be able to get springs from a breakers yard. New doesn't always mean better. SLS is a great source for parts. Rear springs are 68 euros. Google "SLS hamburg" and you'll find the site.

Thank you for your help.  Still a while to go before I will be needing springs, but touch wood, so far is the only part I definately know I need replacing (famous last words, I know - the flippin' car has been in storage since 1986!).

Spent the weekend helping to strip the car and cleaning & catalogging the various bits as they come off - hope to post pics soon.

Thanks guys,

A
