courtesy light door jamb switch

Hello all.  I have a 1970 280sl and, during restoration, I broke both door jamb switches through stupidity.  In looking to replace them, I found that the passenger side has two "poles" or contacts, but the drivers side connection is four pole.  Can someone tell me what the purpose of the additional contacts are for?  Replacing the passenger side is <$30, the driver's side is >$100  . 

Would it make sense to replace the driver's side with a standard two pole switch?

I thought that they were both the same on mine, but looking at a circuit diagram there are extra contacts on
one side for an intrusion alarm/buzzer. I am sure my car does not have it.

Just a thought but could it have to do with the extra light that comes on the dash when the door is open with 280SLs -- and some how the brake level warning? Earlier cars don't have such features.

Mine is a '69 280SL but only has the two pole switch on the doors!

Circuit attached, 16 and 17 are the door switches.

The 280 SEL 4.5 I just parted out had a 4 pole on the drivers door.  I sold that one already.  I'll have to look to see if I still have one from the first parts car.  If I have it I'll let you know.

...but those look from the picture to be plastic, not metal...   Do late 113 cars have plastic door-open switches?   And are the 4-terminal variety difficult to come by?

Yes, the later models have plastic switches.  Both are readily available.  I bought the 2 pin off amazon and the 4 pin are available from many general auto supply stores by order.

....but in plastic (echh).  Is there a metal 4-pin switch, and what does it do?

So is the difference shown in the wiring diagram that the second set of door contacts activates a warning buzzer, assumedly if you leave the keys in the ignition and open door and/or leave the lights on and open the door?    Save our eyes and tell us the answer if you know it please.... Thanks!
