Is this the same engine?
« on: July 14, 2011, 19:00:00 »
Saw this ad on craigslist...

wondering if it's the same engine as the pagodas.   Also, would it be worth hanging on to?

Thanks,

I would say if you have the room to store it, its worth buying.

It has a lot of Pagoda 280friendly parts including engine trans. and probably rear axle as well.

Hello,

Make sure the automatic transmission is the 16 bolt pan unit like in the pagodas.  The later 280SEs had an altogether different automatic transmission with a four bolt pan.

If the engine is stuck you may have a lot of damage inside. The head could be scrap as well as the block.

Most times these non runners will go for $350.00 or less.

You should be able to neotitate a lower price.  The parts are worth much more individually.  You will be talking a chnace on the engine, but I would give it a try.  The FI pump, fuel delivery pump are worth more than what you can probably buy the entire car for.

And, Yes the 280SE engine is virtually the same as the USA spec 280SL engine.
