I know a number of us are driving our prized Pagodas to PUB this week. I am looking forward to getting my car on the road and meeting all of you! I plan on taking the scenic backroads from Cincinnati to Columbus...3 hour drive versus the 1 1/2 hour drive on I-71. I just want to savor the car (and keep it away from gravel trucks and the like). In thinking about the trip, I asked my self what spare parts and tools should I bring along. I pose the same question to this Forum. What do you pack with you on your road trips? ... besides a French Bordeaux and a 25 year old scotch!

Given the temperatures in the US right now, make sure your radiator works and is topped up, and you have extra H2O

I am taking some oil, trans fluid and some tools. I have a 250 mile drive and hope to have no problems. I drive the car locally all the time so it should be a trouble free ride...

Given the hot weather, you might include radiator hoses and belts as well.

I'm bringing everything that has been mentioned, plus DUCT TAPE.
You don't often need it, but when you do you are sure glad you have it.

I think all of us are jittery about the long drive---------------Will I make it? What if I break down? When I bought my 250sl in 1986 I drove it up from Mississippi to wv. About 1200 miles. That was with a tired engine. Most of us have rebuilt "everythings" on our pagoda's-Let the Pagoda gods be with us all. Safe trips for everyone.

Hoses, fluids, oil, various tools and the duct tape for sure. Given how we care for our cars, I'm betting we will all make it to Blacklick just fine. Once there, we can tune, top up, tweak, tighten, seal, touch up, clean and...not to mention...toast the Pagoda Gods before the trip home. This is my first PUB. One thing I'm definitely bringing is a digital camera with a lot of memory space. This is going to be fun!

Maybe an extra set of car keys; a tow card (AAA or phone number of MB Roadside service, if you qualify).

I'll be taking maps (or GPS), snacks, and a spare spark plug.

Just go over your mechanical parts; engine freshly tuned up; water hoses no cracking, clamps tight. Extra set of fresh spark plugs; and a 3/8 ratchet and long and short extensions with the correct spark plug extracting tool. I prefer Snap-On.

Make sure all your lights, brake lights, turn signals work, as well as the headlights. I use Halogen with standard bulbs.

Spark plug feeler gauge; can be used for thee point ignition if your distributor is stock like mine.

Are the valves adjusted recently? Check fan belts with spares on hand in the trunk. Keep some spare light bulbs too.

The W113 SL is a good solid car if taken care of and looked after. While most British classics's have gone away to junk heaps. The Pagoda is a tuff car to break and a comfortable driving automobile for two adults.

Bring your iPod for music and may I suggest an article in the Technical Manual how to adapt your Becker radio to your ipod and put connect it in a hidden place like the ash tray.

Went for a short drive today, about four hours and a couple of hundred miles to do a shakedown on my car for my up and coming 2000 mile plus trip back from PUB and took a gps so I could find my way back to Joe's. On my way back I brought a fuel filter, some belts and hoses and a couple of spanners. Bob it was an English car. Shock horror it didn't break down and I did not need to use the can of smoke for fixing the Lucus electricals

How far is 71beige280sl traveling, I think that the Scotch and the H2o are the most important items for a three hour drive. The rest is only confusing the most important things.

Of course if strangers are reading this and don't know our sense of humor, the references to Scotch are not serious.

Some Scotch may go into the radiator in an emergency but not into the driver on the way to Blacklick

Scotch would go in my windscreen washer bottle. A nice Islay Malt, on the other hand...

My trip, according to the source of all knowledge, Google Maps, is 110 miles. Given I put that on the car on a sunny weekend, coupled with just having it tuned, I am expecting a trouble free drive. My Pagoda is running great. I just hope it doesn't rain!

Just saw the forecast for rain is 40% for Friday night and Saturday.

110 miles will be a nice trip if you take the back roads and extend it out a bit.

Just checked google and I will have to drive 2261 miles. That is going to take a lot of Scotch. (each night of course) to get me thru the next days drive.

I just put the hard top on. It is a little better protection in case of rain. Usually when I am over prepared it is not needed...

I debated this for Alsace last year and came very close to leaving it on

Naj was the only car with the hardtop IIRC!

My hardtop is off. Just have to make the trip with the top down for as long as possible. I am bringing a few towels and my leather chamois to dry any water. I looked at weather.com...30% chance of "scattered thunderstorms". Hopefully, they will "scatter" away from Blacklick!
