Tall Fuel Pump (Early)

Hello all
I just learned from my mechanic that my 1967 250SL fuel pump is not working (Early - tall).
are the tall and short pumps interchangeable?
he is proposing to fit a modern type (small cylindrical) fuel pump instead, any thoughts on that.
does anyone have a good tall pump for sale?
any help is appreciated

Hello, Basem,

Yes, the tall pump can be replaced by the later short pump.

You will need to add a bracket and new mounting rubbers. The 'coffee can' protecting cover will also have to be modified to accomodate the fuel pipes.

The short and large style pumps are pretty much functionally interchangeable. You will need to purchase the correct mounting plates for the short one though in order to use it in place of the tall one.  The protective shields are also diiferent but you may be able to modify the tall pump shield to fit. Some applications will require the use of a tee fitting to prevent vapor lock==I don't believe this applies to the 250 SL but check with Joe Alexander ==it depends more upon the fuel injector model that is fitted. Some have had good luck with fitting pumps from other model MBs, but my advice would be to stick with what was designed for the car if possible. Hope this helps
