Recored Radiator
« on: September 09, 2011, 15:45:18 »
I have a 280 SL that has an original radiator. The car never ran hot but appears to have lost most of the coolant over the summer. I did not drive the car more than 200 miles this summer. The shop wants to put in an aluminum radiator to stop the overheating. Can someone give me advice on whether to use a recored radiator from a reputable supplier or go to an aftermarket aluminum radiator?

thanks

My 2cents worth.

Go with a quality recored radiator. That will solve leaking (provided it is the radiator that leaks) and possible future overheating problems. In addition you will have kept the car more original which is becoming increasingly important.

You say the car never ran hot, but the shop wants to put in an aftermarket radiator to cure the overheating. (?)

I agree with Gus, go with the recore but also make sure they flush out the whole system to ensure the leak was the radiator.
