This will surely go for some major Euros. I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to just buy a hardtop and stick a Golde or Webasto sunroof into it.

I am very curious to see what this goes for. I added it to a watch list on ebay just to see.

Now, THAT is freaky!  A removable hard top on a convertable with a sunroof. GO figure?  I heard mention about it on other posts, but never would have believed it without seeing.  And, this was an MB option????

I believe it was not an official MB option. My understanding is that it was an option that European dealers could arrange for interested parties. I'm told it was outsourced and not done by the factory.

Doug, et al,

Given that it was not a factory option and to my knowledge does not appear on the data card as an option, why would it go for a big premium?  Does anyone have additional information on these?

Best,

Tom

Gernold and I talked about sunroofs only a couple of months ago. It'll definitely command some money in an auction. The value is there for the cars right now, so the rarest options should show some appreciation as well.

It may not be a factory option, but it was still a period option installed on new cars. That gives it some novelty appeal.

For those interested here is copy of the text of the ebay listing translated by an online service.

They offer on a very rare Pagode Hardtop with Webasto-sunroof for the 230 SL - 280 SL.  The condition I would designate as 4.  The sky must be renewed, the old sky is to be utilized however as a pattern.  The disk is is in order, the chromes complete.  Be missing the front Verriegelungen, are however the same like in the normal Hardtop or Softtop.  The Hardtop is varnished repeatedly so that the varnish must be removed, because it is infiltrates partially of rust.  I think, no Durchrostungen are however.  An absolute must for each Pagodenfahrer, there super rarely.  I, delivery of the buyers receive Ebay.  Much joke in the offering.

For all you with inquiring minds, the final bid for the hardtop was USD $1258.36. Based on the translation there would appear to be a whole bunch of restoration required. What do you figure the end product will end up costing?? $3,000 - 5000? more?
