Finally received my shell back from the body shop and now need a job lot of two sided tape and some nails to put it all back together again, does anyone know where all the bits should go as it's some time now since I took it apart!

Classic Preservation in Wythall Birmingham, they usually advertise in the Gazette and my car is the during picture in the October isue on page 74.

I don't think I agree with your subject. Mine looks just like yours except it's dirty, greasy, dented, rusty and blue. And the steering wheel is on the other side. I just today finished the disassembly process on my LHD 67 230SL to the level you show in your photos. I would much rather put it back together with clean new parts than to take it apart with most of the rusty bolts seized and all the underneath parts covered with 44 years of crud (I've done both). I think the hard work is digging through the rust and grease to get it apart. In the springtime, I'll be where you are now with my progress. Congratulations, yours is beautiful already.

Please keep us informed as you put it back together. I have a selfish motive. I don't really trust the notes and photos I made when I took mine apart, so I need someone to blaze the trail for me as I put mine back together. I've already copied your photos to show my body and paint man what it's supposed to look like (except for the paint color and the right hand drive).

Unfortunately, in the same advert the picture of the engine bay that says '113sl Pagoda after' is of my car. The car went in for wax/ rustrproofing underneath. They didn't touch the engine bay- I thought that was a bit cheeky.

Your car looks stunning David. Did you end up getting it coated or dipped?

I thought it might be Classic Preservation, I saw what must be your shell there earlier this year, when I was discussing some remedial work to my 68 280SL also in silver. It looked stunning then and now even better, you must be chuffed to bits. The work they do there is certainly to an extremely high standard. I do share Tom's sentiment though, it may be a long job but surely the fun now starts with the reassembly of all those shiny new bits that no doubt you will be fitting.

Do share your pictures as its inspiration for us all.

Enjoy and don't sell at the end which I once did with a S4 Elan I once owned.

I would guess the wire harness then the heater core would go in first. It seems that all Mercedes started as a heater core then the car was built around it.

Well I have managed to fit the VIN plate so nearly done.

If anyone knows where I can get the seatbelt plate remade I would be most grateful as it now look very seedy next to the new VIN.

John - I had the shell dipped and e-coated but as the place in the UK had closed I had to send it to Germany.
