New seats

Thinking about replacing the torn seats in my 1970 280SL next spring.  I'm the owning/enjoying type, not the mechanical type.  Is this something I can do on my own, or is it smarter to hire out?

wjucpa, new seat covers make a huge difference on the appearance of the interior.  I replaced mine last spring.  I ordered new covers and pads from GAHH and then had a local upholstery shop install them on the seats.  You can very easily remove the seats for transport.  Four bolts and they lift out.  Check the springs as well.  There is more info on using pool noodles for improving the firmness of the seat.  Just do a search on this site.  If you have worked with upholstery you can probably do it yourself, otherwise get someone experienced to do it.

Thanks for the response.  Looks like sending out would be best.  My seats are pretty torn up, but still comfortable, I'll need to check materials under the material.  And I'll check out where you purchased.

the pads and covers are an investment. Once you are in that deep.

I ordered new horsehair pads and covers from Basic..pulled the sets and had local guy recover.  All in all, pretty reasonable in cost.
