Bolt Size/spec for A/C Bracket Bar
« on: December 12, 2011, 05:45:04 »
Does anyone know the bolt size for the bolt which connects the bracket bar (which connects the passenger side motor mount to the A/C unit) to the air conditioner. I just noticed that the motor mount bolt had worked itself partway out, the bolt to the A/C unit is non-existent, and the bar is completely loose!

Also, does anyone know of a reference where I can see exploded views of the car with part numbers?

BTW, thanks to everyone who has been answering my posts over the last month. I'll get this car driving again even if it takes a few more months! The collective knowledge on this site is incredible.

OOps... should have mentioned it's a 250 SL.

Hi Barry,
you need a "spare parts list" for your car. See: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Documents/SparePartsList
They come up on eBay sometimes but can be expensive.
BTW, is your 250SL an early (VIN <002980) or a late (VIN >002979) 250SL?

The VIN is 250SL004542 so I guess it's a late model. BTW I got the engine running last weekend. It sounds great. Now I have to free up the sticky throttle linkage. ...and a bunch of other stuff!

It turns out that the bolt is American! 3/8 X 16! It's funny that the air conditioner is marked "Kuhlmeister" inside the car, but the compressor is SAE.

Yes, those original AC units were installed by dealers in the USA when these cars were new. The compressors are the old piston "York" brand  units.  Get parts at your local auto parts store.

Most prefer to convert to the new more efficient, smother running and smaller rotary compressors like the Sanden, these days.
