Injection pump 230SL
« on: January 16, 2012, 18:40:55 »
Hello everybody,

I am from Germany and just recently registered here. Last year I bought a 64' 230SL.  Looking around I found that this is a great site and that you have posted many interessting details about our cars. So I would like to join....

Close to were I live I found an engine for sale with this numbers: 127 981-12-004-366, compression E-8,3  The injection pump does not go with it. My questions are if anybody could say why the number ends with three digits instead of six and if the copression ratio is common ?

Would it be possible to install an injection pump from a 250SE ? In the technical manual I found that the later pumps have a forced oil supply. So I would need a different supply line ? The oil return should also work on an M127 engine I guess...

Thanks in advance,

Hajo

The 250SE pump is calibrated for the 2.5 liter engine. Don't know if it will be right. I suspect that it can be done if you change the injection mixture as needed.  Check to make sure that the 250SE pump is force oil fed also. Yes the supply line is different in the early and late pumps. Look through the "injection pump tour" to become more familiar with the different pumps.

Good luck, keep us up to date,
