Looking the fuel pump over.....

Hi Guys,
I pulled the fuel pump from the 280 and the overall outside condition is excellent. I got all of the old gas out and then poured some alcohol into the pump. The alcohol came out dirty,(I expected that) but it wasn't too bad. My question is: should I just try to flush it out several times or should I take it apart and have a closer look inside? If I do have to take it apart, I have been reading how to do that, but the instructions state that I need to remove the 2 hex nuts. These hex nuts are embedded into the plastic. Do I need to remove the center screw holding the - and + plastic and pull out the electrical assembly? I do not want to destroy this pump, so I figured that I had better ask before going any farther. Thanks

I would be bench test running it first.  The golden rule, if it aint broke, dont fix it.
There are some posts on the forum by either JA17 or Benz Dr on flow rates.

You'd best leave that part alone. Those are the terminals and normally do not need to be removed unless you have a leak coming through the terminals. If this is leaking all you remove is the center screw so you can go in and replace the o-rings that seal this area. Be advised though if you do that the o-rings are very difficult to find since they have a square cross section rather than round. Garry offers some sound advice here.
