Injection Pump Filter Removal Cheap Tool
« on: January 22, 2012, 19:02:22 »
Thought I would pass along a low cost solution to removing the air injection filter.  A very Slim wrench is needed.   In my case a 22MM.   Some models need a 19MM.   There are speciality tools out there, but I modified a Bike Spanner wrench similar to the one shown on the attachement.    This Bike Spanner started life as a 17MM .  Several visits to the bench grinder allowed me to open up the wrench to the size needed.   This wrench was easy to grind larger since it is not forged steel.

This wrench has been in my tool box for decades.  Never thought I would have a use for it.  Worked like a charm.

That's a good tip indeed, I have a new filter waiting to be installed but could not get the old one off. I think I have one of these skinny wrenches sitting around but never thought about grinding it to size. Thanks!

Somebody (pehaps Waqas) some time ago pointed out that a bicycle cone wrench is perfect. Thin enough and has a number of different sized (wrench) openings. Wish I knew this before spending time at the grinding wheel with a standard 22mm end wrench.

Whilst not exactly cheap I bought a Bacho slim jaw adjustable spanner and it's excellent.

Gus, What you did was what I thought I was going to have to do.  I imagine it took a very long time to grind down that standard size wrench to fit into that tight spot.  This stamped steel spanner was easy to grind to size.  A little bit at a time, then a check on the progress.  For safety, wear eye protection, and a very good grip on the spanner with some vice grips.
