One of the claims of the Haynes Manuals is that they start with a car, and take it apart to learn how to do things. "Every manual based on a complete teardown and rebuild" is their claim, right on the cover. The Haynes Manual I have is titled "Mercedes-Benz 230, 250 & 280 1968 thru 1972, 6-cylinder sohc Sedan Coupe Roadster" ISBN 0 85696 346 1. Though there is an SL (113) on the cover, other cars are covered including ones with carburetors.
I've always found some of these manuals rather humorous and a bit lacking...for example, this past summer, upon recommendation of Joe Alexander, I changed my water pump. There is a brief mention of removing the radiator, and the section on that doesn't begin to cover the myriad other things one must do, and how to do them, in order to remove the radiator. It makes almost no mention at all of removing the fan clutch, which was arguably the most time consuming part of the task, and makes no mention of the short and long versions of the pump. There is, however, a section on "overhauling" the water pump, which is something most people do simply by replacing. Heck there isn't even a core charge on the water pump so even the manufacturers don't "overhaul" them.
But, I sure love their cut away drawings on the front cover!
