Over the years, we have managed to introduce a couple of terms, abbreviations and other terms that may be challenging to newcomers or those otherwise not in the know. Here is a list to help with the translation:
BBB - Big Blue Book - which still does not really help, but it's the original shop manual. Term was coined by David Pease
WRD - Warm Running Device - widget on top of the fuel injection pump that impacts the cold idle mixture
CSS - Constant Speed Solenoid - magnetic device that raises idle rpm for auto/AC cars
MBCA - Mercedes Benz Club of America
PUB - Pagoda University Blacklick
JA17 - Joe, AKA Joe Alexander (resident in Blacklick)
AKA - Also Known As
The Other Joe - any Joe other than JA17
Benz Dr - Dan Caron, AKA 'The Docter' or 'Benz Barn', up north in Canada
BST - Brass springy thing - radio-grounding interference thing at the top of the hood/bonnet latch
FSVT - Funnel shaped vent thing - the fuel overflow from the fuel expansion canister, by the rear of the car near the exhaust.
Flower Pot - the plastic fuel pickup and return compartment inside the fuel tank (used with permission from Benz Dr)
LSD - limited slip differential - rear axle that contains a system of clutches that makes both wheels drive rather than one side that spins while the opposite side that grabs.
RHD - wrong (right) hand drive
FIP - fuel injection pump
CD - capacitive discharge ignition - points and coil ignition, with a transistorized ignition box that stores a charge that is released when the points open. Commonly used in late 60's to earlly 70's.
WD - wharehouse distributor - only dealers or service stations can buy from them. Not available to the general public.
POS - don't ask! (but, if you must know: Piece of ^%$#)
PO - Previous Owner
TTS - thermal time switch
NOS - new old stock (sometimes used loosely)
OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer
SWAG - Swinging Wild Ass Guess
NLA - No Longer Available
