is it worth to repair A/C

I am thinking have my A/C repaired. But a friend of mine told me it is a waste of money to do that since A/C on w113 car does not work well anyway.  Can anyone please give me your experiences/advices if it is worth to get it fixed?

Hi Eric,

Yes, it is worth it to get your A/C fixed.   I won't own a car without air (when the sun comes up - I'm hot).   I bought my Pagoda knowing the A/C needed service.

I totally disagree with your friend on this.    After proper servicing, mine now works like a dream, even on days that are in triple digits !!

Do it - you be chilled..... I mean, thrilled

In this part of the country, I don,t need it. I recently rebuilt my engine, and did not put on the bulky bracket or ugly compressor back in . It looks pretty now!  I did keep parts in case I change my mind !

I also was advised that A/C didn't work very well in 113s, but this is Texas and it gets HOT.  I added A/C two years ago and, after working through some issues (bad A/C compressor clutch, condensation dripping in the cabin, getting my auxilliary cooling fan installed and wired correctly, learning about and changing to Freeze 12 freon) it works fine and I am very glad I have it.   June through September weather is the worst.  Too much sun and heat during the middle of the day to have the top down if you are going to drive anywhere besides around the neighborhood.

Unit plus installation was around $3400.  Including adding the aux fan.

Hi Norm,   May I say - that is a very attractive/professional  (unique) appearing A/C installation.   It reminds me of the way the cabin A/C looked in the older 280SE (and more) models.   But,  if one has the proper MB dealer "aftermarket/dealer installed A/C", it can be tuned to function beautifully !.  

As for the current check of my "factory/dealer" stock A/C (FridgeKing) system,  I had no leaks or contamination from any other elements being introduced into the system.    

Drive your car, run the A/C - enjoy whatever nature has to offer.........

If the repair shop determines that the compressor is bad, go with a Sanden 508 as a replacement.  They are less expensive than other options and are very efficient.  I have one in my car and it works quite well in the Florida summers.  When the Sanden kicks in, you won't even notice.  There is a "York to Sanden" adapter that bolts onto the existing mounting bracket.  Spacers and longer bolts allow you to align the belts properly.  It isn't "Concours correct", but it is "driving practical".

This one would of course require more room. Check first to see if you already have an adjustable idler pulley, which can be used to adjust the belt tension.
