I have to share this link the forum. This car looks like one of the nicest and most detailed low coupes on the planet. Truely spectacular. A great reference car.

I must say that I am not as impressed with this as others. In one of the first pictures of the under belly, you can see the overspray from the white paint on the corner of the trans mount. Looks like they taped of many componetents and sprayed over the old finish underneath. The exhaust pipes are a gold color (should be satin black) and overspray from the gold can be seen on the exhaust mount at the trans. They did take off many small hardware items and plated those. The exterior does look nice for sure.

Only thing that scares me about a car like this is did they properly repair before they covered up wth paint and make it look clean and shiny? Lots of good pictures.

Guys I agree its a lovely car but I would be concerned about the treatment of the floor. Lots of underseal, not strictly as factory and some detail issues. I noticed the door seals are poor also........but I am nit picking.....its a car I'd love to own !!

Well someone obviously liked it to pay over $40k!!  WOW!   It's nice to see a non 3.5 Coupe for this much.   I just hope there wasn't a lot of cover up (if any).  It would be damn shame for the new owner to discover.

Are you saying one is incapable of easily picking apart their own car?

I would say that it depends on who one is and who restored one's car.

The money paid to purchase this very nice car could not even come close to the cost of restoring one to this level. Nice car.

That's true, but doesn't necessarily make it worth what it sold for.  I wouldn't pay it, not when 3.5s sell for similar amounts and that will always be the limiting factor on the non-3.5s.  See convertible comparables.

You are correct and that being said, I would not pay that for the coupe. If this is the car you want you are still better off paying a premium then attempting to make a lessor car into a nice one.
If we all had the same taste (or lack of taste) we would be driving grey Chevy Malibu's.

It is almost always less expensive to buy a well-restored car than do it yourself.  There are some rare exceptions.

Whoever bought it is obviously happy (based on the positive Feedback posted).   Perhaps the market value was of no concern to the buyer.   This is a hobby for 99% of us.  Although articles have been posted recently about certain automobiles be a "good" investment, I have always walked the path that I'll end up having more into my cars then what they are worth.  Quite frankly, I really don't care!   My passion for vintage Mercedes' makes my heart sing and that's worth it's weight in gold!  I think all vintage car owners are a bit eccentric and I wear the label with pride!

Regarding the condition of the car -- it's beautiful and well restored!   There are probably some areas of concern (I'd hate to think undercoating is covering up anything!), but it still an impressive vehicle.  Personally, I'd rather stand back and say, "what a fabulous car", as opposed to finding minor flaws.  I also prefer very clean originals and nice drivers versus show cars!  But that's just me!

My two cents....

I agree with you on looking at the positives. However, I don't think market value was of no concern. The market speaks every time a sale has been made. Look at the alternatives. See if you can find another one as nice as this car. Think of the cost and time associated with the restoration work.
These cars were rare when they were new and only hand full are left in existence. Look at what an equal quality cabriolet would cost. These coupes (the new classics) will continue to appreciate.

I guess I should reword it...the market value, along with appreciation, may be a gain in the future.  Perhaps this was of concern.   But, even if it wasn't, some people have other concerns than money!  I happen to fall into this category and it's not to insinuate that I have a lot of money or not...it's what makes my heart sing when it comes to selecting a car....nothing more -- nothing less.  I hope this reflects my point of view more clearly.
