I am a new member and recently found a seller that has a an alleged barn find 1965 230SL that he claims needs a motor (stored inside for fifteen years with virtually no rust and decent interior - have NOT seen the interior pics yet). What questions should I ask Seller (left a telephone message earlier today) before I travel a couple hundred miles to view/purchase this vehicle. I have assembled my questions please add additional questions or points of inquiry. Your help is greatly appreciated.
1.) What is the VIN?
2.) Do you have a title?
If so from what state and issued when?
In whose name is the title?
3.) What makes you say the motor is bad?
4.) Does the car have any rust?
5.) When was the last time that the car ran?
6.) How did the car come to be stored in a barn for so long?
Additionally, any guess on how much am I going to spend on i.) purchasing a rebuild of the 230SL from a machine shop/reputable engine builder; or ii.) on parts and machine work if I do the assembly myself. Finally, what is a fair price (or fair range) to offer for such a project?
