Well, it certainly explains the play - I am amazed that it could still be shifted.

The replacement bushings are not all that easy to install.  They slip into the hole in the selector, and then you need to force the linkage over them because the fit is very tight.  I ended up positioning the linkage above the selector and smacking it with a hammer to drive it down and get the holes to line up.
