Re: Auto tranny.  What holds the 12-15 inch rod(with the 10 mm eye) on to the 3 inch shift lever(with a 10 mm stud) on the tranny?  There seems to be no c-clip or cotter pin. ..

The linkage just pops over the stud.  Use some white grease on the new bushing, and it pops on pretty easily.  I had the same problem in the past, and drilled a small hole on the "Ball" on the end of the trans linkage.  Then I used a cotter pin and a very thin washer to secure it.  This serves as a safety to keep the linkage rod attached, in case your bushing goes south.

You can do the same on the shifter end of the rod, but you have to remove the shifter from the car to accomplish this.  Just not enough room to drill the hole while in the car.
