Gray soft top?
« on: June 16, 2004, 13:05:27 »
Does anyone own or has anyone ever seen a gray soft top? Apparently, it's option code #741, so it was available.

I'm wondering what shade of gray it was and what color headliner it took.

GAHH has never heard of a gray soft top for a 113, so apparently it's pretty rare.

Many thanks for any insight out there.

Dear Doug:

I have a 1964 230SL with option code 732.  This option
is for "Folding top fabric 970 dark grey".  GAHH does not
have this fabric color.  Gernold G. Nisius from SL Tech was
able to find the fabric for me in Germany (with the correct
headliner color).  He rebuilt my soft-top frame and covered
it with the material.  His work is perfect.

So what colour IS the headliner ??

I read in Merediths book that there were quite a few different colour tops, most of which I've never seen. Grey was definitely listed !

Ben:

Gernold from SL Tech advised me that all 230SL's
had the same (very light tan) headliner regardless of
the soft top fabric color.  I am not sure if this was
true for the 250 and 280 SL's.

The headliner on a gray top should be the tan herringbone just like any other top.
