No door pull=correct?

Gents,

My 64 230SL has no door pulls.  The door panels were redone in leather, with the hard pocket and little armrest.  There are no door pulls, just like the pictures on BudsBenz's upholstery page on their website.

My question: Did ALL 230SL come with door pulls?  I have a european (Germany) model.  I cannot find old door pulls in the restoration files, pictures or old leftover parts bins.

Also: my understanding is that door pulls and ashtray tops are all black on 64 230SLs, can anyone confirm?  My ashtray top has also been redone in blue leather.  Should it be black leather for the car to be correct, or did leather cars have vinyl (MB TEX or something else?) ashtray tops?

My  '66 has a pull on the right door only. I've seen pulls in different colours but I'm not sure what was used on 230 SL's.
I think that cars with standard trans only had pulls on the door opposite the driver. A door pull on the drivers side might tend to get in the way a bit while shifting.

 I'm over 6' 3'' so everything gets in my way. You should see me in a 190 SL.

All 230 SLs had door handles (door pulls) on the passenger door panel.

Only early 230ies up to VIN 00914 had an additional flatter ( !!! ) hardtop handle on the driver's door as well.

The ashtray lid had an inlet made of foamed vinyl or plastic foil. That was never leather. These were - in the same way as the window crank pads - only black for all 230ies up to VIN 012466. Thereafter these covers were matching the interior code. But plastic, not leather, not MB TEX. And always.

Note that the internal frame of the door allows for fitting of the pull handle on either or both sides if you wish.

I had one on the drivers side in the 280 also as I found that pulling on the elbow rest or door map pocket over time was likely to damage it.

Dan, you think it is hard to get in a Merc, try a Jag XKE, Thats why Tom and I referred to it as the small moving space, and neither of us are tall.

I've been trying to find a vendor for this part in the list of suppliers on the site.  No luck.  Anyone know who might have one for sale?  Where would you go if you had to get one?
